The debate rumbles on about the worth of high end sheer lipsticks (do you want more pigment for your pound, more boldness for your buck etc. etc.) but I stand by the cost-per-wear 'girl maths' of there being a greater chance of me wearing a sheer lip day to day. And there's an even better chance of me wearing a lipstick everyday if it's as gloriously comfortable and brightening as these offerings from YSL.
The Rouge Volupté Shine* lipsticks launched in February, promising lip care, shine and colour all wrapped up in what my boyfriend has dubbed 'Princess packaging'. Although marketed as wet-look shine, the Volupté Shine's aren't sticky or overly glossy and pass my 'hair-sticking-to-face-in-a-breeze' test. Instead I find these just as comfortable as some of my lip balms with just the right amount of healthy sheen.
I have one of the pink shades and one of the coral shades but there are 19 in total, encompassing beiges, corals, reds, pinks and purples. Top is 13 'Pink in Paris', a creamy pink nude, and below is 15 'Coral Intuitive', a brightening coral pink. Both add a decent wash of colour to my naturally quite dark lips, without leaving them looking washed out or blotchy, and I find they wear for a solid 3 to 4 hours, even after a few cups of coffee, and fade evenly.
Priced at £24, they're naturally in treat territory - but don't disappoint. Available from YSL counters and FeelUnique.
