NOTD: Sonnetarium 'Samurai Princess'

9.1.13

Although I've not really dipped into the world of Indie nail polish brands (besides with the beautiful LEX 'Tuileries'), they always seem to create incredible effect polishes. I've not been bowled over by the offerings from big brands this year, 'concrete' in particular puts my teeth on edge, so after spotting some polishes on The Nailasaurus I put in an order with Sonnetarium. Michelle offers handmade polishes and they all come in two sizes, 9ml and 15ml. The 9ml, which I opted for, is $6...that's £3.70.

'Samurai Princess' is a clear polish with hex and bar particles. The polish is packed with glitter, so you barely need two coats to get a nice layered effect, but it still applies smoothly. I first tried it over a white polish and the result was very 101 Dalmatians, but I felt it was a tiny bit stark and you couldn't really see the white hex particles. So I tried a different combo, swapping the white for alternate layers of O.P.I's Care to Danse, a milky purple jelly. The particles are much more visible and it really shows off the polish at its best.

I also bought Peppermint Kiss, a milky polish with red, white and green hexes, but as it's a bit seasonal I think I'll save it for another time. Unfortunately both polishes seem to be sold out but I thought it was worth mentioning as I'll definitely have my beady eye on the website from now on!

Shipping was around $6, and they arrived within about 10 days.

  1. I haven't tried any indie polishes yet nut most seem lovely and unique. For some reason the concrete finish makes me feel ill. I'm not a fan, same goes for crackle effect.

A rather unique look, I really like it.

  8. I'm not much of a nail polish girl, but have been dipping my toes in recently. I prefer solid colors, but do sometimes want a bit of a sparkle, and these topcoats are perfect! It's unfortunate that all the polishes are sold out, though.

  25. Now that looks so good on top of the white base. It pops. I haven't tried any indie nail polishes either & you have inspired e to track some down & support more smaller makeup businesses. The quality of this looks so good. Its quite an unusual effect. I like it

I've never heard of this brand, just checked their website and almost all of their polishes are sold out. D'oh. Definitely one to watch out for though.

Thanks for shining a light on them.
