I did one of these posts last month and it seemed to go down quite well, so I've had a rummage through my makeup storage to pick out some products that either deserve or need some extra use.
MAC's Haute & Naughty mascara is the only MAC mascara that I actually like, but it's still not one I reach for an awful lot as it can get a bit clumpy. It's coming up for expiry though, so I'm making a special effort to use it up before it goes bad. If you really want to try a MAC mascara, I'd recommend this one but I personally won't be repurchasing it when it does run out. The other two MAC products are eyeshadows in Quarry and Vex. Both gorgeous colours, but not my favourites as I find myself packing them on a bit to get any real effect. I also pulled out the Maybelline Color Tattoo in 40 Permenant Taupe which hasn't been used as much as the bronze shade, but I'm still a big fan. I think it might work well with the MAC shades too?
Next are four face products (two of which have almost reached the pan...although it doesn't look like it). Maybelline Dream Matte powder is one of my favourite highstreet powders, although it really bugs me that more than half of the packaging is taken up by a mirror and fairly unhygienic sponge. It's in 03 Golden Beige which is a smidge pale for me at the moment, but very yellow based and quite translucent which makes that less noticeable. Talking of favourite highstreet products, Rimmel's 004 Pink Rose blush, in its particularly unglamorous (ugly) packaging, is one of the most reliable blushes in my collection. You wouldn't think it from the swatch, but it goes with just about everything and has just enough sheen to liven up your complexion. The texture is pretty easy to work with too.
I'll never work out how Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Cream in Rose Gold finds its way to the back of my drawer so often, because it's beautiful. Maybe it's the slim, unassuming packaging, who knows...but it will be gracing my cheeks again for the foreseeable. Ending on a slightly negative note is BareMinerals Prime Time Brightening Primer. I own two BareMinerals primers and I haven't been blown away by either of them. The smell reminds me a little of a petrol station and they don't feel particularly nice either but I'm making an effort to get them used up.
Are you trying to use anything in particular at the moment?

I had such high hopes for the Bare Minerals primer but also found it disappointing.
ReplyDeleteRimmel blushes are great aren't they? Its odd, I didn't really clock that I liked them so much but actually they are actually one of the few that I have repurchased. Quite a fan of Liz Earle cream blush at the moment though.
ReplyDeleteI love Mac Quarry eyeshadow and the Colour Tatoo one! I haven't reached for mine that much lately, but you've inspired me to get them out and start using them again!

ReplyDeleteI love the colour tattoo in Permanent Taupe, such a great base!! www.hiddentreasure21.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI have that same Maybelline Color Tatto and I love it - you just reminded me I should use it more so thanks! :) Otherwise I think you've picked some really nice products and colors :) x
ReplyDeleteI should give my MAC Quarry eyeshadow some more love as well, it's a beautiful shade but not very pigmented. And I don't have the time nor patience to pack eyeshadows on in the morning. :)
ReplyDeleteI keep neglecting both my 24 hour colour tattoo eye shadows, I have the permanent taupe and the gold shade (can't remember the name!). I've barely used the gold one.. it's just a bit rubbish but I do like the taupe one, I just never find myself reaching for it!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading these posts, gives me a bit of a kick to try and use some of my stash up too! x
Love Maybelline Color Tattoo in Permanent Taupe. I so don't use this enough either. Also the Rimmel's Pink Rose blush looks like such a pretty shade. I have a couple of these blushes. I need to dig them out & see what shades I have.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to use up my Kiehl's Ultra facial moisturiser as i have so many lovely new ones waiting in the wings. Also my No7 eyeshadow quad (freebie with a mascara) has been getting used a lot too. Doesn't seem to be getting any emptier tho.
I keep meaning to do one of these. In fact, I'm going to put it on tomorrow's to do list!!! xo
ReplyDeleteThat Rimmel blush is gorgeous, just the kind of color I favor...I'll have to see if I can hunt it down. As far as shopping my stash, I've been trying to show some love to my poor neglected Nars eyeshadows. The taupe shade in the Earth Angel duo is so perfect for everyday wear, and I'd forgotten how pretty the Tokyo duo is, I've been reaching for it lots lately as it's the perfect purple eye look for my complexion. Thanks for the reminder to search out the forgotten gems I already own!
ReplyDeleteI ended up giving my maybelline color tattoo in permanent taupe to one of my friends because I hardly ever used it. I also have the dream matte powder that I am trying to use up. I love the Jemma Kidd highlighter, it is one of my favourites!

I've also got the Maybelline Dream Matte powder, and I really like it too. But I'm just wondering what kind of brush you use instead of the sponge? :)
