On My Desk

13.8.12

As I've mentioned before, I'm currently battling my way through a Masters dissertation. Subsequently I'm spending a lot of time at my desk, and some of my current favourite beauty products have been keeping me company.

I love having candles on my desk, but I tend to work best after 3pm and into the evening and struggle to find scents that are neither too stimulating, nor too relaxing. Neom's new Harmonise candle* sits perfectly in the middle and after burning it for a couple of afternoons I actually got round to reading the description fully. It is so accurate: ‘to treat tiredness and to encourage focus. A gently energising blend, perfect for helping clarity and concentration.’

I wasn’t sure about the scent when I first took it out of the box, as the notes of pine, cedarwood and eucalyptus reminded me a little of Badedas (which is a guilty pleasure, but not the most feminine or sophisticated of scents). However when it burns - 100% vegetable wax so it flickers nicely on my desk without chucking out soot - like all the Neom candles I’ve tried, it fills the room with an incredibly multifaceted, and in this case soothing, scent. I've loved all of Neom's fragrances, but this has rapidly become my favourite and as a 'treatment' it works very well. I can see this becoming an autumn/winter favourite for lots of people.

Also on my desk are established favourites, Burt's Bees Banana Hand Cream (full post here) and NUXE Reve de Miel lip balm. A new addition is Aesop's Parsley seed cleansing masque, which I've been using to tackle some stress related breakouts. I'll be posting a full review in the next week or so, but I'll say now (tentatively) - it has been working wonders.

Do you have any desk favourites?

  1. I'd really like to try a good scented candle that won't burn out too soon. I may have to look into Neom.
My desk top essential would probably be Carmex lip balm (I can't be without it)!
