When I first saw swatches of O.P.I's New York City Ballet Soft Shades collection, I'm pretty sure I made an audible 'meh' sound. A bit like sheer lipsticks, sheer nail polish just seemed a bit pointless at first - but, again like the sheer lipsticks, I've worn this polish more times in the last week or so than anything else.
I spotted Care To Danse? on this blog layered over a glitter polish and absolutely loved the finish. It's a soft lilac jelly which looks nice on it's own (you may need a few layers, but the formula isn't overly streaky) but is at its best in combination with other polishes. I've worn it layered over Nails Inc. Porchester Square, it brings out the lavender tones and adds a pretty shine, but I think my favourite use for it is jelly sandwiches - layer of Care To Danse?, a layer of glitter polish and topcoat of Care To Danse?. I used my trusty Saffron London hex glitter. Care To Danse? softens the gold down in a really pretty way and the suspended glitter look is a very Deborah-Lippmann-on-the-cheap-mann.
I bought mine from the USA via eBay but the NYC Ballet collection is available on BeautyBay as a 15ml bottle for £10.50 or as a set of four 3.75ml bottles for £12.75.

I normally go for bright nail polishes but i love the look of this collection because like you say they will make great glitter sandwiches.
ReplyDeletePlus i love ballet so it's a win win package :)

Ah so funny, I literally just blogged about the same nail polish! It's my new favourite too, although I also love Piroette My Whistle from the ballet collection! Check my manicure out here: http://mulberryplease.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/opi-manicure-nude-with-glitter.html
ReplyDeleteI love the effect of this! At first glance it's really neutral but the glitter makes it so much more interesting. It's such a good idea, I might have a little play around ! x
