Highlights

12.5.12

Excuse the unimaginative title, but I was talking to Tami about NARS Albatross the other day, and thought it might be useful to have a little swatching session of my highlighter collection (the makeup variety - although I am a bit of a stationery nerd so I can do a post about my favourite Japanese pastel highlighter pens too if you so wish...).

I currently have six on the go, and looking at the swatches I think that is totally necessary. They're all quite different. Right? RIGHT?! My current favourites are the No7 Vital Enlightening and MAC Extra Dimension Whisper of Gilt, both shades look quite natural on my yellow-toned skin. That said, they all get roughly equal usage so I would happily recommend any of them.

(Clockwise from top left:  Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow All Over Radiane Cream in Rose Gold, MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl, MAC Extra Dimension Mineralize Skinfinish in Whisper of Gilt, No7 Vital Enlightening Highlighter Powder, NARS Highlighting Blush Powder in Albatross, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle)
(L-R: No7 Vital Enlightening Highlighter Powder, MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl, NARS Highlighting Blush Powder in Albatross)

  1. I've just bought NARS Miss Liberty highlighter (thank you, ASOS 24% off discount code) and am wearing it for the first time today. I'm also a bit of a highlighter fiend but ooooohmy Miss Liberty is something special. Definitely worth a swatch xx

  4. A stationery vlog would probably be A+, although I doubt anyone other than me and about 5 other people would watch it...

  7. Oh I've just seen m'name! haha ;)
I got Albatross on Thursday, I'm yet to try it though... I'm waiting 'til Monday when *wait for it* I've got that other albatross off around my neck! (oh the hilarity)
I've searched high and low for the no7 highlighter but no luck, booo. And I've heard good things about the Jemma Kidd one too actually.. I think that'll be my treat next month. I'm so good to me. haha xxx

  8. Damn, they all look so beautiful, it doesn't help with my desire to spend obscene amounts of money on several highlighters as a reward for my revision efforts!
I'm swaying slightly more towards the Jemma Kidd one though...

I'm so rubbish at making decisions, I want them all!

  11. I've yet to get into powder highlighters, still a bit obsessed with the liquid formulas as I find they just blend so beautifully.
But the MAC skinfinishes are very tempting!

  18. I've been dying for one of the Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow highlighters for ages. I was nervous the Rose Gold would be a bit too dark, thank you for swatching!

And I certainly wouldn't be opposed to pastel Japanese highlighters! Apart from being a makeup geek I'm a writing implement/stationary geek as well ;)

  24. Stationary FTW!
Thank you so much for doing a post with all the swatches. I'm currently trying to find the perfect highlighter and its all a bit confusing and shimmery. I would've loved to get the MAC Extra Dimension MIneralize SkinFinish but I think its sold out everywhere :(

  25. What brush shall I use with highlighter? I have MAC'S Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft And Gentle and when I apply it it sort of applies badly, like chunks of glitter and I think it's the brush I use.. :/ :)
